Explore the variety of University of Portland courses for which the Clark Library teaching librarians regularly provide instruction sessions.

BUS 100 Library Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to distinguish the best search strategy from a list of possibilities.
  2. Students will be able to evaluate the information they locate.
  3. Students will be able to use all information (text, images, etc.) ethically.

BUS 200 Library Outcomes

Pamplin School of Business marketing faculty collaborated with Clark Library to develop the following outcomes:

  1. Students will be able to identify marketing databases for differing levels of analysis (e.g., Macro, Industry, and Consumer)
  2. Students will be able to locate individual firm and competitor information (e.g., product line width and depth)
  3. Students will be able to evaluate sources (e.g., firm website, Google, vs. 3rd party)
  4. Students will be able to implement methods, techniques for efficient searching (e.g., NAICS codes, Boolean operators: AND, OR, NOT, limiting searches to specific source types)
  5. Students will be able to apply guidelines for business writing (e.g., proper citation formatting, HBR guides to better business writing)

BUS 205 Library Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to identify finance databases.
  2. Students will be able to recognize the authority of finance databases for different purposes.
  3. Students will be able to search finance databases efficiently.

BUS 370 Library Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to create maps of local demographics using geographic information systems.

BUS 400 Library Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to identify relevant databases.
  2. Students will be able to evaluate sources and select high-quality items.
  3. Students will be able to incorporate industry context as well as local business information.
