The tools listed below are free to use and have been in development for several years by non-profit research/programming organizations with the goal of accelerating research methods for things like systematic reviews, visualizations, and even generative summaries. They also are focused on academic sources in the sciences and social sciences.
Note that similar and emerging for-profit tools are not included in this list, such as Connected Papers, Consensus, LitMaps, Scholarcy, and Scite. For some of those, there are a limited number of free uses (visit their sites for more details on pricing).
