ED 414: Children's and Adolescent Literature and Library: Picking Up Books and More

Overview

All of our book collections (including Children's Literature) are open for browsing again.

You may either:

  • find the book you want on the shelf, and bring it to the Service Desk on the main floor of the library to check out -or-
  •  Use UP Library Search to request items from the Clark Library and Summit collections, and then pick them up at the main floor Service Desk during our open hours. You will receive an email when items are ready. Swipe into the building with your UP ID.

You can send someone to pick up your books, as long as they have your UP ID card in hand. Remind them that they will need the card to get into the building.

Not finding the item you want? Here are your options:

Requesting Clark Library / Summit Items

To ask to have books, DVDs, etc. from the Clark Library or Summit collections brought to the Service Desk for you to pick up, look up the item in the library catalog and select its title. On the next page, in the Get It section. select Sign In and enter your UP credentials to sign in to your library account

2. Select Request UP's copy to obtain Clark Library items, or Request from Summit to request through that system.

3. The request forms have helpful tools:

3.1. Before submitting a Clark Library book request, you can ask for a book chapter instead. If you're not sure which chapter you need, we can send you the table of contents. Select the Request button to submit.

3.2 A Summit book request form has a real-time availability checker, to make sure the book is requestable. Select the Request button to submit.

Clark Library is open during the following hours:

Sunday 1:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Monday - Thursday 9:00 a.m. - midnight
Friday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Summit Requesting Details

What is Summit?

  • A shared catalog of 37 academic libraries in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, containing hundreds of thousands of items.

What can I request from Summit?

  • Books, DVDs, CDs, and other physical items

How do I request items from Summit?

  • Use UP Library Search.
  • When you find an item you wish to request, choose the title of the item to see the full details.
  • Choose Sign in, and enter your UP username and password.
  • Choose Request from Summit.
  • Select Request.

How long does it take for Summit items to arrive?

  • About a week.

How will I know when my Summit item is available?

  • You will receive an email from the library indicating that your item is ready to be picked up from the Service Desk during our open hours. You will have one week to come in to pick it up.

How long can I borrow Summit items?

  • Books: 6 weeks
  • DVDs, CDs, media: 6 days

Can Summit items be renewed?


How can I return items?

  • Bring them to the Service Desk during our open hours, or drop them in our book drop, to the left of the main entrance.

More Options for Picking Up Books

If you're not currently in the Portland area, or not able to visit the library during our open hours to pick up items, check out the Children's Literature collection of your local public library. Many public libraries have sizable collections of children's literature, and libraries may be open for curbside pickup.
