Library databases primarily rely on Boolean logic (and, or, not) and "word matching" to yield optimal search results. Word matching looks for the exact words or phrases you entered. Here are some tips with that in mind!
For scholarly analysis: Enter the name of director, film, or genre followed by the word criticism.
"ken burns" criticism [quotes around multiple words retrieve exact matches for that search string]
jazz documentary criticism
historical documentar* criticism [* retrieves matches for multiple endings: documentary, documentaries, documentarian]
For interviews:
"ken burns" interview
"ken burns" conversation
For reviews:
"searching for sugar man" review
"ken burns" jazz documentary review
More search terminology: Pay attention to the terms and descriptors in your search results. Many databases have a Subject filter that reveals more terminology. Use the filters or try new searches with other terms to see what else comes up.
