Anti-Oppression: Anti-Paternalism

Note

This page is intended to provide some general information about combatting paternalism, i.e. "the policy or practice of restricting the freedoms and responsibilities of subordinates or dependants in what is considered or claimed to be their best interests" (Oxford English Dictionary). It is by no means exhaustive, but rather serves as a starting place for finding information from a variety of sources. It will continue to develop in response to evolving issues and community needs. You can find a longer list of resources on our associated spreadsheet, and through the UP Library Search catalog. If you would like to suggest additional resources or provide feedback, please contact Reference/Instruction Librarian Heidi Senior.
