EGR 110: Introduction to Engineering: Cite Sources: IEEE

IEEE Style

IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Style is widely used in engineering, computer science, and other technical fields. IEEE style is a numbered reference style, using bracketed numbers [1], [2], and so on within the text of your papers. In the Reference List, numbered sources are listed in the order they first appeared in the text.

Quick Citation Tool

There are many free quick citation tools, but we recommend using ZoteroBib. It is developed and maintained by an open-source community and is ad-free.

  • Paste a URL, title, or a persistent identifier like a DOI or ISBN into ZoteroBib to create in-text and reference citations. There is also an option to manually enter the source information if ZoteroBib doesn't automatically find a match.

  • Add IEEE style to ZoteroBib by choosing the dropdown menu in the Bibliography section of the page. The last menu item is an option to view more styles. Choose that to look up and add the IEEE style.

Reference Managers

The library's subscription to RefWorks is ending on April 30, 2025. We recommend moving to Zotero as a free alternative for managing your references and automatically creating bibliographies in your preferred citation styles (APA, Chicago, MLA, and many more).
