Mendeley: Reading and Annotating

Reading PDFs

Read the full texts attached to references in your Mendeley Library by selecting a specific reference and choosing the Read button from the information tab that displays on the right. The PDF opens in a document reader within Mendeley that enables you to both read and annotate the document.

Annotating PDFs

Mendeley Reference Manager has a document reader which enables you to:

  • Read
  • Highlight
  • Add Sticky Notes to comment
  • And organize quotes on full-text documents

Any highlights or comments you create on your documents will also show up on the document's Annotations tab when viewing the document information on the All References page.

Mendeley Notebook

Mendeley also has a feature called Mendeley Notebook to easily organize your annotations.

Your Mendeley Notebook enables you to:

  • Compile annotations from multiple different references to a single page
  • Sort annotations by topic by creating a New Page
  • Delete notebook pages that are no longer necessary

You can access your notebook by:

  • Selecting Notebook on the reference information tab in the All References page
  • Selecting Notebook on the reference information tab in the document reader view
