Persistent Links to Library Resources: Overview

What are Persistent Links?

Persistent links provide direct and reliable URLs to the library's online resources (articles, streaming videos, ebooks, etc.) that work from on- or off-campus

Most library databases provide persistent links, which might also be labeled as permanent links, permalinks, stable URLs, or share links.

For assistance with finding and using persistent links, please contact the Reference librarians: 503.943.7788, reference@up.edu, or use Library Chat.

Permalinks and Off-Campus Access

Many persistent links will already include the prefix which allows for off-campus access: https://login.uportland.idm.oclc.org/login?url=

Some library databases do not include the off-campus prefix in the persistent link. This guide will indicate if the prefix needs to be added.

Use the Off-Campus Link Generator below to easily add the prefix to a persistent link if needed.

Off-Campus Link Generator

Use the Off-Campus Link Generator to get stable and sharable links to items within library databases for adding to Moodle or course syllabi.

Step 1. Obtain a persistent link to an item.

Step 2. Paste your persistent URL here. (Note: URL must start with http:// or https://)

Step 3. Choose the "Create Link" button below

Step 4. Copy the converted link (press Ctrl + C)

Your off-campus link is ready to be shared!

Note: this link generator works by adding the off-campus prefix (https://login.uportland.idm.oclc.org/login?url= ) to the beginning of the URL.
